Atikali Rest Time

Rest time is an essential component of the Atikali full-day pre-school and kindergarten programs. It promotes physical health, cognitive development, emotional well-being, socialization, and effective classroom management. By prioritizing rest as part of the daily schedule, our educators can create a supportive and nurturing learning environment that meets the diverse needs of young children. The school provides individual sleeper cots and a cot sheet for each learner, and parents are encouraged to provide a comfortable pillow and security object (a beloved blanket and/ or stuffed animal) for use during this time only.
During Rest time at Atikali, young learners are able to enjoy the following benefits as part of the Atikali Advantage:
  1. Physical Rest and Rejuvenation: Young children expend a lot of energy throughout the day, both mentally and physically. Rest time provides an opportunity for them to recharge and rejuvenate their bodies, reducing fatigue and promoting overall well-being.
  2. Cognitive Development: Adequate rest is essential for cognitive development. During rest time, children have the chance to process and consolidate the information they have learned throughout the day. This supports memory retention, problem-solving skills, and overall cognitive functioning.
  3. Emotional Regulation: Rest time allows children to regulate their emotions and manage stress levels. It offers a break from the stimulation of classroom activities, giving children a chance to relax and unwind. This can help prevent overstimulation and reduce the likelihood of behavioral issues later in the day.
  4. Socialization and Relationship Building: Rest time provides opportunities for children to engage in quiet, cooperative activities such as reading or drawing. This fosters socialization and relationship building among peers, as children have the chance to interact in a relaxed, informal setting.
  5. Routine and Structure: Incorporating rest time into the daily schedule helps establish a sense of routine and structure for young children. Consistent rest periods provide predictability and stability, which can contribute to a positive classroom environment and support children’s sense of security.
  6. Teacher Planning and Preparation: Rest time also benefits teachers by providing a dedicated period for planning, preparation, and assessment. Teachers can use this time to reflect on the day’s activities, organize materials, and plan future lessons, ultimately enhancing the quality of instruction provided to students.
