Atikali Nutrition Programme

We are committed to the wholistic development of all Atikali learners. The Atikali nutrition program plays a critical role in supporting the health, well-being, and academic success of children enrolled in the full-day pre-school and kindergarten levels. By prioritizing nutritious snacks and meals, our educators create an environment that nurtures children's physical, cognitive, and social development, laying the foundation for lifelong health and learning.

Our nutrition program, including morning and afternoon snacks and an optional lunchtime meal plan, is a vital part of the Atikali Advantage for several reasons:

  1. Supports Growth and Development: Proper nutrition is essential for the growth and development of young children, providing them with the necessary nutrients, vitamins, and minerals they need to thrive. A well-balanced diet supports physical growth, cognitive development, and overall health.
  2. Sustained Energy Levels: Full-day kindergarten programs involve long hours of learning and activities. Providing nutritious snacks and meals helps sustain children’s energy levels throughout the day, ensuring they have the stamina and focus needed to engage in classroom activities and learning experiences.
  3. Enhances Learning and Academic Performance: Research has shown that nutrition plays a crucial role in cognitive function and academic performance. Children who are well-nourished are better able to concentrate, retain information, and participate actively in classroom activities, leading to improved learning outcomes.
  4. Promotes Healthy Eating Habits: Introducing children to nutritious foods at a young age helps establish healthy eating habits that can last a lifetime. By offering a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and dairy products as part of the nutrition program, educators can encourage children to make healthier food choices and develop a positive relationship with food.
  5. Supports Socialization and Mealtime Etiquette: Snack and lunchtime provide opportunities for children to socialize with their peers and develop important social skills such as sharing, taking turns, and practicing good manners. Eating together in a supportive and supervised environment fosters a sense of community and belonging among children.
  6. Addresses Food Insecurity: For some children, school-provided meals may be their primary source of nutrition. A nutrition program ensures that all children have access to nutritious meals regardless of their socioeconomic status, helping to address food insecurity and promote equity in education.
  7. Parental Engagement: A nutrition program allows for communication and collaboration between educators and parents regarding children’s dietary needs, preferences, and any food allergies or restrictions. This partnership promotes parental involvement in their child’s education and reinforces healthy eating habits at home.

Eat, Play, Grow

Snack time is learning time at the Learning Lab where during snack, children together with a teacher discuss what is plated, finding links to their learning and experiences.

Children will also participate in creating their own farm to table experiences from our community kitchen garden!
